Kudos for the find csbin. I clicked on the link and obviously since the language was Chinese ? I gave up trying to decipher anything other than the 10 core is definitely going to be $1569 - not "cheap".

I also noticed the 6900 which replaces my high end 5960x at the same price bumped the base clock from 3 to 3.2 and the boost from 3.5 to 3.7 PLUS bumped up official support for DDR4 ram from 2133 to 2400.

I'm sure there are other improvements going from 22nm to 14nm.

Nice gains for a new builder of an enthusiast system.

I think I'll wait for Skylake-E. Not really liking the prices at this point for BW-E. I might as well spend the big bucks with a platform and cpu upgrade next year.

Well, they did drop the price of the lowest end hex core for Haswell. There were some rumors that the 10 core would be close in price to current 8 core with some price compression of the rest of the line. Not to be I guess. Theoretically zen should bring some competition, but I guess intel will keep prices in the stratosphere and cut prices if necessary when zen comes out.

Nice that they increased base and turbo on the 8 core, but since nearly everyone overclocks, it is largely irrelevant.

Yep, I skipped IB-E and looks like BW-E. Just not worth it.
 
Well hate to keep harping on this but they should make the hex core mainstream, and make the HEDT 8 and 10 core, maybe 650.00 and slightly over a thousand for the top of the line. Then there would be several viable upgrade paths at "reasonable" cost.

I would like a hex core mainstream if and only if it comes clocked out of the box at 4GHz+ and is rated at a 95W TDP.

I really like being able to use a cooler like the Intel TS15A on the 6700K and know that it'll work really well. Too high a TDP and you start needing more exotic cooling solutions and you might not even get as high single threaded performance.
 
Isn't it a foregone conclusion at this point that we need big aftermarket coolers to get max performance from HEDT? At this level of development it's just physics.

Looks like, you've finally found your equilibrium. Less is more 😀

My main gripe with x99 is the lack of iGPU though. Power you can control these days pretty easily. You can make a 45W CPU out of 5820K, if you know what you are doing. The missing graphics however is the problem... all of that leading to unnecessary higher power operating costs.

What mainstream users have needs for 6 cores?

The only problem I would have with the HEDT platform is that it is a generation behind. Except at the X99 launch, where the mainstream was z97, and was were I bought my X99 setup. 🙂

Well, that is exactly the point of making the hex core mainstream: giving maximum single thread performance (newest architecture and process node) and more cores as well. Hopefully it would also give better or equal performance per watt, unless Intel is regressing on this metric at high clockspeeds.
 
Would be interesting to see those SKUs overclocked to the max w/ power consumption numbers on hand. Imagine if that could do 5.0 Ghz on all cores 😀

I am most disappointed with the last of sub-$999 8C options. With the new 10C EE, was hoping 8C would move downmarket to ~$600 or so. Unless you are building a new system for X99, or absolutely want (need) 10C, there isn't much here that would entice HW-E users to move over. The options are essentially the same as HW-E CPUs with an added SKU at $1599.
