Of course, but we should be careful to give credit where credit is due. That fact that it occurred on this board shows that it is a capable performer, but not for Broadwell.

Asus seems to have the best firmware support for Broadwell-C right now. I doubt the same factors will be in play for Kaby Lake if availability on the chips is greater than what we've seen from Broadwell-C.

Dang...sorry to hear this.

On the bright side, could be an excuse for you to ditch Z97 altogether and hop aboard the Skylake or X99 trains! :)

Probably. I think with Skylake-E the lineup gets more interesting: 6 cores for ~$400, 8 cores for ~$600, and 10 cores for $999.

Yeah, this isn't exactly on topic, but Gigabyte never responded to my plea for help getting the 5775C working properly, so I have hopped on the Skylake train with an ASRock mobo.

Crashtech, which Gigabyte Z97 board were you using? I too have a Z97 board and updated it with the lastest bios with the plan to install broadwell, but after reading about your bad experience, now I'm not so sure.

Some server Broadwell news:
New Xeon-D models (presumably still Broadwell-DE) set to launch in Q4-2015.
Broadwell-EP 2P set to launch in Q1-2016 with up to 22C/44T.
Broadwell-EP 4P and Broadwell-EX set to launch in Q2-2016.

Also in Q4, the company will expand Xeon D family for microservers with a few new models.

In the first quarter of the next year, Intel is going to launch Xeon E5-1600 v4 and E5-2600 v4 "Broadwell-EP" series for single- and dual-socket systems. New features of Xeon E5-2600 v4 microprocessors will be an increased number of CPU cores, up to 22 cores, and support for DDR4-2400 memory. The E5-1600 v4 processors will have up to 8 cores. Both E5-1600 v4 and E5-2600 v4 will be compatible with existing Grantley-EP platform and C610 series chipset.

Xeon E5-4600 v4 series for quad-socket servers will be launched a quarter later, i.e. in Q2 2016. These parts will be codenamed Broadwell-EP 4S, and their features will be identical to the E5-2600 v4 series. Also in the second quarter of 2016, Intel will release Xeon E7-4800 v4 and E7-8800 v4 "Broadwell-EX" CPUs, compatible with existing Brickland platform.

Considering that the current King of the Hill has 18C @ 2.3 GHz base, and that with a shrink you have power consumption and Frequency headroom, 22C @ 2.1-2.4 GHz should be what you should be expecting from it.

Hello guys, months ago Intel released new drivers to support hybrid HEVC decoding. I was wondering which IGP is included and if they can support 4K playback and at which bitrate?
