You mean that one that gets beat by a single core opteron

You are not talking about Itanium 2 are you . post that link

If i post it, do you promise to go away forever?

Post it running on Linex

Linex? Okay, first of all, it's Linux, not Linex. Do you even know what it is and how it works? Are you even from the US of A, "Betty"?

Where are you from Intelia?

And really... Apple has 2% of the market, where exactly did you get the 50% number from? 2-Itanium failed. 3-leave.

SPEC : The business worlds most depended upon CPU benchamark

Results for Itanium 2:

Dell Dell PowerEdge 3250 (1.4GHz/1.5MB, Itanium2) 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 824 824

Dell Dell PowerEdge 3250 (1.4GHz/3MB, Itanium2) 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1022 1022

Dell Dell PowerEdge 3250 (1.5GHz/6MB, Itanium2) 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1099 1099

The best Itanium Result: (the most expensive CPU, costing more than a 4 core opteron server)

Hewlett-Packard Company HP Integrity rx4640-8 (1.6GHz/9MB Itanium 2) 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1590 1590

Results for SINGLE CORE AMD Athlon FX-57: published by AMD

Advanced Micro Devices ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe, AMD Athlon (TM) 64 FX-57 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1862 1970

Results for SINGLE CORE AMD Opteron 250 in x86-64 Linux

Fujitsu Siemens Computers CELSIUS V810, Opteron (TM) 250, Linux 64-bit 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1706 1849

Even the Pentium-M goes toe to toe with the $2000+ Itanic

Dell Precision Mobile Workstation M60 (Pentium M 755) 1 core, 1 chip, 1 core/chip 1528 1541

Fish through the results yourself

The Itanium is beat by everything from Pentium 4s to Opterons to the Pentium-M, it had its time as a niche part a few years ago, even the 9MB cache part cant hold a candle to an FX-57 in Int or Float.

Now please, please, stop posting bullsh!t.

His whole argument is so full of flaws... where to start.

If the Itanium and Apple OS go together, does that mean there will be super cheap Itaniums?.... No, after all, the rest of the system is gonna be from Apple, which = Much $$$$

Lets not forget a single core Dell server with 2GB of memory and an Itanic II with 9MB of cache goes for the low low price ~$24000

You could build an 8-WAY OPTERON SERVER WITH 16GB of mem for that price. Itanium is, in a word. Retarded.

Well my unnamed neighbor who works for intel (engineer) just shook his head and laughed....whatever that means....he usually cannot say much to me anyways as it would violate his NDAs....

Ih yeah more PR bullsh^t...we will see real world when it comes out...

Also you stated it would be in the apple/intel systems...Sorry but this is not intended for that market and when it arrives it likely wont be comparable to systems then based per power and performance...

Edit: I also see what you sem like an idiot...It is your source!!! LOL!!!!

<<said that its forthcoming Montecito dual core Itanium in a four processor, dual core configuration will thrash a comparable four way RISC system by 60 per cent.>>

This is funny...so you have 4 cpus with dual cores for 8 cores...against a comparable 4 way system...How about an 8-way system with (4) dual core opteron 275's (proably still much cheaper)...I dontthink that is the comparable system they are talking about....Intel is a bunching of spinners like most of their wild claims, by the way which rarely seem to come true.... They probably compared it against its single core Xeon chips or older itanium incarnations.

Just as I though if you go to that IBM link there are no comparisons to modern opteron or dual core opteron cpus....I laugh at this....

Unintelia you show you do no research and just qoute stuff blindly....I think you can have Dan Rathers job!!!!

Intelia, please respond to this post and only this post. You challenged Acanthus to provide a link. He did, and you switched the post to a marketing FUD.

Hay post a link showing Itanium head to head against/ Itanium2/Xoen/Oppies running Linux. You guys post your links. I will read. Than and only than I will post my links . Fare enough. Your link showed nothing . They were all running differantO/S.

You know that's impossible, Linux's also based on x86 (isn't it?), and Itanium isn't an x86 processor, so it won't work.

First of all if you configure a Apple / portable/ desktop /server if they are configured the same there actually cheaper than a Dell.

The more Itaniumsell the cheaper they get.

Well Unintelia as in his/her name is stupid and an F'ing fraud....So basically trying to reason with a person at lower intelligence is going to be hard....

I am tired of the FUD....NOt necessarily the normal troll flame bait which makes it important to expose the mistruths so others are not mislead...

Fud and lying aside, 'she' is asking for something impossible, like asking a fish to mow your lawn. It can't be done.

@ Intelia: Does it matter if the Opteron, for example, would be tested with RedHat, and the Itanium with SuSE or something? Because I have a co-dedicated webserver over in Amsterdam. I could contact my webhoster, and ask him to run some benchmarks. It's 2x 246, 4 GB PC3200 ECC REG. Is that okay?

I will keep quoting Acanthus's thread until you reply to his/her post. That response you gave is ridulous. Obviously you can't compare a X86 chip and non X86 chip on the same O/S . The SPEC numbers are still accurate and I doubt they used emulation for the Itanium numbers . Answer his/her post, not with FUD or misdirection or cognitive dissosance. Answer his/her post.

Edit: Also please attempt to minimize your spelling errors because a typo or two is o.k. but consistent misspellings becomes annoying and takes away from the post. "Hay" should be "Hey", "Xoen" should be "Xeon", "Than" should be "Then", "Fare" should be "Fair", "differant" should be "different".

even if that is true, flops are nothing more than theoretical benchmarks that dont necessarily mean anything in terms of real world performance.
