Intel Anypoint II 802.11b question...

Here's my issue: I've got an Intel Anypoint II [802.11b] PC Card for my laptop. Now I need to buy the a USB access point for my desktop so that I can share my internet connection, files & printer. I find the Intel USB access point kinda expensive. So on to my question:

1. Can I use and access point from another company, such as Linksys or SMC?
2. Anywhere I can find the Intel USB access point cheap? I've tried pricewatch, but no luck

Any input or suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your time.
