Intel Announces Price Cut for 9th Generation F and KF processors

Dang the power of Zen2 at work here. Thank you AMD for kicking Intel really hard and make them lower their prices in what seems to be an eternity of over pricing their products
The 'F' series are the ones without IGP, and were priced the same as the ones with. I'd imagine they weren't selling very many that way.

MSRP may have been the same, but the street price was definitely lower. 9900KF has been on sale at $420 several times over the past couple of months. With this price cut it's possible 9900KF will hit $400 on sale. Nowhere near good enough for me given Zen2, but those who want Intel will sure welcome it.

The only interesting CPUs, that have got meaningful price cuts are Core i5 9500F, and Core i7-9700F. Everything else is kinda whatever...

Wasn't that always going to be the case? As someone joked first price cuts on a CPU since Conroe. Hell they don't even lower prices on CPU's after they have have switched to a new gen (whereas we continue to see better and better deals on Ryzen 1k and 2k and even Threadripper).

What I think Intel is hitting a market where they can't do 5 million different sku's to capitalize on every ounce of segmentation for the all mighty dollar as they used to. Models you want discounts on are CPU's that still seem worth buying for an enthusiast even considering the newfound competitiveness and new product ranges AMD has offered. What they will price down are the sku's that were already weak sellers when their stuff was the best around. Now those are the models enthusiasts probably aren't giving a second thought to.

I think you're right. I think folks are not buying like they used to. The CPUs are good enough. When I look at my own family, this is true. One daughter runs with an 875k when she is not on her phone. The other daughter is on a 4790k. I am on a 4770k, and the wife would still be on her pre-Core system (vintage 2008) if the case hadn't had a mechanical failure.

What people keep buying are graphics cards. The daughter on the 4790k is on her third video card.

Does this mean I'll get a discount on the laptop I bought last month?

Smart kids. Good enough sometimes is good enough. When a used ebay cpu can keep pace with a modern gpu for 1/10th the cost it begs the question.. are all those $100 bills on a new top of the line cpu pulling their weight?

Would you please STOP using Intel news as a means to support your agenda of pushing the merits of AMD's CPUs

The discounts suck, IMO, except for the i3-9100F. If Intel had discounted 20% across the board, they'd be more competitive.
I guess they are selling enough that they don't need larger cuts.

Eh, sorry for the alignment problems - lined them up near perfectly in edit mode.

The price cuts are not even close to making me think Intel right now.

The 9900K and KF are still great CPUs if you have a good cooler and want high minimum FPS in gaming, and I believe Intel is still king in that. That said, I don't think the discounts on them are good, (nonexistent for the 9900k) and they should be bigger discounts, since Ryzen is so close in games, and for those doing other stuff, they fall behind in MT.

9900KF for say, $350, and $400 for the 9900k, would be good competition.

i3-9100F 04-Apr 3.6 GHz 4.2 GHz $122 $97 20.49%
Newegg has already been selling the retail-boxed 9100F for $89.99 for weeks now. Not a bad value, considering that it's an i3 with actual Turbo to near or above 4Ghz, but still only a 4C/4T, so a bit limiting compared to an AMD 6C/12T CPU (Ryzen R5 1600 on ebay for $100).
