Intel and Rambus continue love affair!

Well, what you guys think about that?
 
I think Intel just can't admit that they're wrong. They think they control the industry to the point where the rest of the world will change for them.

However, benchmarks have shown that the P4 is extrmely bandwidth hungry and dual channel RDRAM gives you the most bandwidth available today, over 50% more than PC2100 DDR SDRAM. That's probably the other reason for sticking with Rambus.

Based on that, what is there for Intel to admit they were wrong about?
 
I have no doubt that the peak bandwidth number is correct. But how often are you using peak bandwidth? Based on the P4's spec's, this may be an area where RDRAM is fitting. RDRAM's issues are with latency, but this may be negligible compared to the performance increase with bandwidth when applied to the P4. However, I don't see how DDR shouldn't be slightly faster, but I do see how it would be cheaper to develop a Rambus chipset for the P4, which may also be a concern. Intel will make more money by cutting their costs, not the consumer's.

RDRAM is a little over a dollar a MB today, which really isn't crippling, especially when you compare it to the massive prices that are incurred for the entire system.

People who are going to buy a P4 shouldn't have price qualms with RAMBUS, nor should it affect their performance (much).
 
Let's think about the future... Which type of RAM do you think will be more prepared to keep up with 2.0+ ghz speeds and beyond?
 
I hate to say it but RDRAM is a perfect match for the P4. The low latency P4 core helps hide the high latency of RDRAM and the pure bandwidth offered by RDRAM feeds the P4 quite nicely.
