Intel 925X system

My friend's b-day was today, and as a present his dad bougt him a new $1500 rig. He got a 3200+ athlon 64, 1 gig of memory, Radeon 9800 XT, kickarse mb, and more. When we put it all togehter, there were multiple problems. THe computer would randomly restart when playing games, or somethings even on the desktop. We troubleshooted for an entire day, I did everything possible, and we finally narrowed it down to the mb. He's goign to return everything today and willing to wait for the 925x with DDR and PCI-Express. Problem is, how long is he waiting? IS it weeks, months, seasons?

I would think he wants a PCI-Express x800
THe asus p5AD2 Premium
I gig 533 DDR dual channel
and a prescot of the 755 socket

How long is he going to wait to get this rig? If he's going to wait long, then I'll suggest he just get current p4 technology.

Thanks for the input.

What motherboard ? What memory ? This Athlon64 platform is very stable, given the correct components, and I think (since he is a gamer) he would be happier with the Athlon64, done correctly.

As for your question, a long time. End if the year probably.

By the way, the 925 doesn't support DDR, it only supports the currently slower/more expensive DDR2.

I guess you already tried swapping in a different power supply? And you made sure you plugged in the 12v connecter near the socket on the motherboard? And the molex connector on the video card?

I'd wager dollars to donuts this is some sort of power problem.

You need to list specifically the brand/model of the parts you tried. Most likely you did something wrong.
As for waiting , an Intel man for the most part, I wouldn't wait for a prescott based system....
Imo it won't be till next year when Intel has dual-core pentium-M's , will Intell have anything that I'd upgrade to.

If he wants an Intel system now, I'd get the following: P4-3.0c, Asus P4b800e, w/ 1024 pc3500 HyperX memory. Also get either a Antec 430 or 550 ps.

Regards,
Jose

Ever ear the phrase: 'Be happy with what you go.'

DUDE, your friend has a Killer Gaming Rig. I have a ABIT IC7/P4 rig, and even I know that your friend has a kick ass system. I really don't think he could get any better right now. The 925x boards will be out in 1-2 months, but there is so much cutting edge technology with the 925x boards that it will do more cutting than benefit. There will be PCI Express video cards that won't offer any benefit over AGP cards that are now out. The DDR2 Ram will be slower and 2-3 times more expensive than good low latency DDR. The new socket T for Prescott is much ado about nothing; excess heat and slower than the P4c.

Your right man, the P4c is as good as it gets in Pentium land for the rest of the year. But I think he'll be better off with the A64 rig.
