Intel 805 vs. Opteron 144?

Is that the correct one?
It will only pull the 24s with one mem chip installed (won't do it in dual channel) and I don't want to take it apart in order to do it.
I was really surprised when it ran slower this am with the dual RAM installed...I have yet to figure it out.

I don't see why water cooling can't be an option if you're planning on OC'ing.
Air will take the 805 to 4GHz on max load if you've got slick tricks up your sleeve.

If you're spending over 200 bucks on low latency OC RAM, I don't see why you can't find enough money for a water cooling kit.

The 805 will destroy that Opteron in an OC battle and easily match an Athlon FX-62.

p.s. Installing custom modded heatpipes on water with an Asus board to draw heat from every aspect of the motherboard and combo'ing it with an Athlon FX60 will get you over 3GHz, speeds are good enough for Oblivion on an ATI crossfire setup, very high frame rates with XMS RAM.

I am hitting 3.8 at 39-42 idle where the ambient room temp is around 80 degrees idle on the D805 on my Abit Ni8-SLi using Arctic Cooling

I can go higher but decided to keep it at 3.8 and have it produce less heat in the summer.
I will pump it up to 4ghz when it gets a bit cooler. 😀

I have an 805, do you ? You need watercooler ($250) and a great motherboard ($200+) and great memory and a big psu to hit 4 ghz+ on an 805, and you still have a flamethrower. Get an X2, or an opteron, and on stock air, it will match that 805@4.2 for total less money. Stop talking without knowing what you are saying, as you don't have one, and I do, and so does stevty, we know.

And you aren't running at 4ghz+ either..that was kinda the point..3.8ghz is ~ the performance of a 2.4ghz X2, which is a lower end overclock.

~$295 at the moment for a 3800+ X2 which easily does 2.4ghz on stock cooling. Yes, makes it more difficult for some one on a budget, but if you can afford the 3800+ then I would go for it over the 805 any day. What are you load temps, have you even bothered checking for throttling? With 42c idle temps, and increased vcore, you could very easily be throttling at 3.8ghz. At 3.7ghz with the Scythe Ninja I'm hitting 57c load, 32c idle.

I ran the Prime 95 Torture test for each cores and None of my chips ever went over 50.

What case are you using, and how many fans. Perhaps you have a suggestion for the guys in this thread, for the 2 guys with 8xx chips that are throttling..that and abit boards tend to read lower than actual temps, so you still should run throttlewatch, and S&M.

I have the Actic Cooling Freezer Blowing directly out into a 120mm fan to the top of the case which is direction exhausting the heat.

I also doubt that it is not a flamthrower. I have one, and everyone here without watercooling knows it. Also, that memory is $148 at newegg. If you are that far off on prices, I can;t believe the rest of your post, sorry.
