Hi everyone. I was hoping someone could shed some light on this issue. This is my recent build that I'm having issues with:
Cooler Master Centurion 534
GA-P35-DS3R (updated to f3 bios)
Intel 6320 dual core (Zalman CNPS9500 HS/FAN)
2GB Crucial Ballistix PC28000
EVGA 8800 GTS 640 Superclocked
WD Caviar 320GB
XCLIO Goodpower 500w
Samsung DVD burner
Samsung 204bw 20" WS LCD
Win XP Home
Installed everything, loaded windows, loaded the most recent drivers for the vid card, and downloaded the f3 bios from gigabyte (flashed fine, I think). Everything seemed good, so I started to play around with overclocking.
I set the FSB to 400 and left the multiplier at 7. I also left the ram timings to SPD (which seems to change values everytime I reboot into the bios). The cpu/ram devider is at 1:1, so the ram is running at 800mhz. I also bumped the rams voltage to 2.2 as spec'd by Crucial.
I rebooted and posted into windows. Now, when I bring up CPU-Z, it's reporting everything with the timings I would expect it to, but the multiplier is bouncing between 6 and 7 in real time. I can actually watch it change the core speed from 2400 to 2800 mhz.
The other thing that has me confused is the SPD tab is reporting that the memory is PC2-6400 (400 MHz). Is that just because that's what speed I set to in the bios, or did I get shipped the worng modules (bought the PC28000).
Does anyone have any ideas what's happening here with the multiplier bouncing around?
I was going to put it through the paces with Orthos and superPi and continue to find the max overclock for this system, but I didn't want to continue without figuring this part out.
