intel 510 120gb vs. ????

Im going to pull the trigger on one of these boys for a new build. Who else is a viable contender for my dollar?
 
Crucial c300, crucial m4 (aka c400), Vertex 3

Do you have SATA 3 (6bg/s) ports? If not, none of these drives will work at their full potential
 
Right now the 510 would be my preference.

I'm looking into the Corsair Performance 3 also - primarilly because I can get them for $60 less each drive and they are supposed to have an aggressive garbage collection - useful for raid0. Still researching this though.
 
yeah my new build out has 2 sata 3 ports. Thats why I'm looking at this drive over the 320. I'll check out that Corsair drive and the crucial one. Is the vertex drive ok? They seem flakey yes?
 
Wise choice...I would do the same in your spot.

I have installed about 14 G2 drives (various sizes) for myself and customers. I have also installed 3- Intel 320 drives and 3- Intel 510-drives...with no hint of a problem from any of them.

My next personal drive with be a 510 - 120GB drive...unless something better comes out at that pricepoint later this year (from Intel).

I look at benchmarks like everyone else...but I really hate taking chances with defective stuff...because I hate hassling with it. That is why Intel wins for me.
 
yeah back when I was younger I could spend tons of time tinkering with my systems but these days I'm so busy if something broke it would probably sit broken for a month. lol.
 
Had the similar choice of Agility 2 vs. Intel drives. I've been too busy to troubleshoot stuff and just want things to work. I eventually chose the 510 over the Agility even though it was ($1.29/gig-Agility 2 vs. $1.86/gig-Intel).
 
Not as many people have been mentioning the new Samsungs. However, the newer versions of the Samsung 470s are VERY fast and so far little to no complaints about dying. They also use their own memory and controllers. I researched for weeks and decided to make the splash and went with a 256gb version and I love this thing. It got a outstanding rating at techspot too.

I wish Anand would review the Samsung. He has it referenced in some of his benchmarks, but no review on it yet. I have also read quite good things about this drive but the reviews are hard to find.

I agree they are. However, what I could find and the customer reviews on Newegg and Amazon are mostly fantastic. I took the dive and have been beyond happy with it. I love being able to finally load apps the instant windows is loaded with no lag or delay.
 
IIRC the Samsung drives have always been about reliability over bleeding edge performance, so now that we're in a sort of performance bottleneck its no surprise they're catching up
