why would intel release a 3.4 northwood so close to prescott's launch? It seems like they could delay prescott again if they wanted to or something, since 3.4 could be the new flagship for a few months ..... or am i missing something?
it's also a little odd that intel's site still references P4's going up to 3.2 mhz...don't seem to find this 3.4 on their site.
Not that odd, it just shows that it hasn't officially been launched.
Also Intel planned to take the .13u P4EE to 3.4, why not the regular P4?
Also to Intel prescott and Northwood are the same chip, because they will have the same branding so to the end consumer there is no difference (altho to the enthusiast there is one...)
Finally in reality if they can make 3.4GHz Northwoods stably then they will. It is always to Intel's advantage to sell its CPUs at the highest binable speed, they obviously make more $ that way.
