The Fry's/P3.2/ECS 848-P issue has been out there a while, but no one has come up with the definitive answer:

I'd think Fry's would get tired of the returns, and find an answer. I could not get my combo to POST, or at least I could not view the POST due to no video signal. I tried an AGP 4X GF-4200TI, a new AGP 8X ATI 9600, a new Enermax power supply, and several memory swaps. I had a Rev 2.0 board. When the Fry's return manager tested my board and CPU upon return, it booted right up, of course. They used their own power supply, memory, and a cheap MX-400 video card.
For the people who have working 848-Ps with P3.2/P3.0, what video cards are you using? (pulverizer, lordbob99)
The $169 price was a weekend-only price at the San Jose store. Most other locations are $189 for the P3.2. Of course, the P3.2 combo was $199 a few weeks ago.
From a marketing perspective, the price of the combo and tax is still less than the chip-only price from any of the online vendors with free shipping. Keep in mind that the sales reps on the floor at Fry's make NO money from the advertised specials, including the combo boards. They will make money on the upgrade. Some want you to upgrade because you will have a better system, others will say anything to get the commision. Selling you something that does not work or that you do not need is no less fair than taking 20 minutes of the sales rep's time asking questions about a combo board that they don't get paid on. There is nothing wrong with win-win. It's Fry's fault that the upgrade is still lacking.
OBTW, Fry's AMD specials are much more expensive than buying online...
