Intel 2600k reboot issues

Reseated the processor and heatsink. It booted ok, i ran intels diagnostic test, according to which, everthing is fine. After 20 minutes or so it restarted and kept restarting in POST. Everytime i switch it on after giving it a rest, it runs fine for little while, then it rebbots continuesly. Whyyyyyyy?
And forgive my ignorance, how do you load failsafe defaults, its only optimised defaults in bios. Thanks

Some motherboards have both, fail safe defaults and optimized defaults which can be slightly different. If you only have one that is fine.

I really honestly truly think it's the way you have your case wired/grounding issue at this point.

Pull it all outta the case, set it on a cardboard box, like the mobo box and try again

Take her all out of the case, start it with a screw driver, and see if it happens again.

No need even for that. Set your power management in BIOS to startup with poweron. That way, when you switch on the psu's power, the cpu/mb will boot.

Thats a good idea too ehume, but what if there is something making contact where it shouldn't be which is causing the issue? Aka he has a loose washer, bolt, something that is causing it.

I dunno, I just think his case/wiring is the culprit personally.

Yeah, both need to be eliminated from the list of suspects at this point.

Uhm, no, no they weren't. Those are 3rd-tier brand names. Get an Antec, SeaSonic, or Corsair.

Has this rig ever posted in windows? I'm curious what HWMonitor would show for all the temps, including the mobo's temp-sensor chip. I'm wondering if something is mis-reading, either a bad temp chip/sensor, or a bad DTS in the CPU, and the BIOS sees a high temp when there isn't one, and it reboots.

I agree that the psu's thus far haven't been stellar. But the odds of more than one failing are pretty low.

Both Psu's are ocz 600w, one of them is modular. I'll take the rig to friends house 2mrow, take it out of the box and check. Will report back 2mrow.

If your friend has another psu, try that out too.

If you are using the same psu, ocz does have a high failure rate so ya never know =P

Make sure you havent installed a mb standoff thats not needed....I once had a friend build a computer that he couldnt get to post longer than a few seconds just to discover that he had put in all the mb standoffs and not just the ones needed.

Exactly why I am thinking he needs to take it out of the case and test it on cardboard
