I think still we can use Q9550 CPU for latest games, even the games on the way, so we don't use Processors like that for new games?? any bugs?? any troubles?? or how is the performance if u use HIGH END GPU?? can be same performance?

FWIW I have a c2q 9650 I lucked into for $50 and it does pretty well for itself in games with the right video card and motherboard, but I don't think straight clocked it can compare to an IB or haswell.

Thread per thread it is comparable to the scores my phenom II thuban 6 core when it runs @ 3GHz gets (which I keep at 3.5GHz and ddr3-1600 9-9-9-24 despite not officially supporting that speed of ram)

wht about the gaming performance? when it with a good GPU?? can we expect good performance without a glitch? ( i mean wht if i use GTX 760 with this processor?)

There was a recent article on this here on anandtech. You should refer to that. :)

You will definitely get major across the board performance increases by upgrading your CPU - even if you get a faster GPU, your CPU will be a bottleneck. Consider getting a reasonable upgrade for both, IMO.

I upgraded from a 3.3GHz Q6600 to a 4.6GHz 2500K and the difference in gaming is tremendous. The Core 2 Quad bottlenecked my Radeon 6870 while this 2500K is more than enough for a much faster Radeon 7950. I play Battlefield 3 and Civilization 5 the most and these games need a lot of CPU power.

Read this: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-wolfdale-yorkfield-comparison,3487.html

It will bottleneck a modern GPU, but its not like the Q9550 is a piece of junk.

Well I upgraded from a Q9550 to an Ivy 3570k (see my system spec below) and I can tell you first hand there is no comparison to a modern Sandy/Ivy/Haswell. I'm cheap and didn't want to shell out the cash for a new build so the first thing I bought was just the graphics card and while it improved gaming performance alot from my old 8800GTX that processor was really holding it back. Then my old MB died and I had no choice but to upgrade.

When I upgraded the rest of my system it was like the flood gates opened. It depends on the game of course and how much CPU dependency they have.

The Q9550 is still a decent processor but really will bottleneck modern titles and anything that's poorly optimized CPU heavy.

Nice rig in your sig by the way. That rig is Moonbogg approved

Q9550 is worth a shot if you get it cheaply enough and don't care to go for a high-end GPU and full platform upgrade (this can be a hassle for some people).

Q9550 mild OC + HD7850 / 650ti = solid 1080p gaming box, you just have to dial down some settings. A few titles will bog a bit, but overall it's a good way to extend the life of a capable S775 setup.

Any i5/i7 will be better, and even i3s are better in some respects, along with greatly improved SSD/SATA/USB/PCIe/etc with those platforms. That said, even today a Q9550 + 8GB + decent GPU = great system. It can't be understated just how important getting a decent GPU is, along with an SSD.

Put a Q9550 with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD and 8GB with 650ti next to an i7 4770K with a mechanical HDD on a Radeon 6670 (sadly there are people that optimize this poorly!), which one will be the better, more responsive, more gaming capable machine? Definitely the Q9550. Of course, toss an SSD and better GPU at the i7 and it will run away with it.

Just upgraded my nephew's q9550. To a 4670k.

So now I have it and an Evga 780i motherboard for someone in my family.

Just have to find the right cards to place in it. Supports tri-sli. (prob wont go there)
