I doubt that Google runs their drives until they die like I do. They replace their drives on a schedule that they set based on their own experience. I doubt that any of their drives have six or seven years on them like my IBM. So their findings really only apply to those who DO change out their drives on a set scedule. But then, probably only SCSI drives have the legs to be competitive over several generations of drives on the IDE/ATA side. Only recently did the performance of the inexpensive IDE drives (PATA or SATA) surpass that of my old 10k IBM. So it will be replaced soon, but I certainly won't be able to depend on its replacement for another 6 or 7 years...
