Ya, I plan on getting mine soon. I have not had the chance to get it until now though. If I do get a car, I am looking at $140 Liability. Thank god Moped insurance is cheap.

We were paying well under $1000 for two vehicles, one with full coverage. Two sons, both have their driver's licenses now. Now, there are 4 vehicles. One of the boys was in a minor accident. Wife got sideswiped by a student in the school parking lot. He was traveling too fast, black ice. Then, a deer jumped in front of our 2 month old van. My wife had only made 1 payment on it. All in a span of 3 or 4 months.

I'm getting killed for auto insurance.

How would getting a license when young help much? Insurance is still going to be high if you have no insurance history.
Also she only has 1 year until she's 25 when it'll probably turn quite favourable.

It does seem very high though, considering she's not a young kid and she's female. Presumably it's not some cheapo crap car that she's insuring, which accounts for a lot of the cost.

When I applied for insurance it was basically more then what the car costed me. So I just got my dad to buy the car and insure it, and paid him.

Insurance was something like 5 grand per year.

because she would be 24 with experience driving. All the cost is from collision. It's a somewhat used civic (06), so it is expected. When I was 24, I insured a 1 year old car for 400 for 6 months of service.

That amount they want her to bay sounds about right. Back in early 1991, I bought a Porsche 944. I was 21 and they wanted $265 a month (with a $1000 deductable) for full coverage.

I got rid of that car and bought a brand new turbo Eclipse in December 1992. The coverage was $299 a month with a $600 down payment! Un-fricken-believe-able!

I didnt keep that car too long either. From 1987 until my last purchase in 2005, Ive owned a total of 15 automobiles. Since I no longer give a crap about what I drive, Ive settled on my old Mercedes. Its a bad habit to get rid of cars too soon. I've lost about $100,000 doing it (roughly).

I turned 25 and am awaiting my newest bill in anticipation of a minor rate drop.

Insured since age 16 though.
