I haven't seen any mention on these forums but I've been watching the Insurgency site heavily in the past couple of weeks waiting for the 2.1 release. They decided to release it as a release candidate and not fully polished 2.1 release so that it could get in our hands.

I just got done playing about an hour of it and it is really nice. It is nothing drastically different from the previous release (2.0e) but better polished, bugs fixed, and two new maps! Well actually looking at the changelog, there are a ton of updates!

I think their plan is to polish and get beta 2.1 released, and that will be the final version until 3.0 comes out (this probably won't happen until sometime in 2009). 3.0 will be huge: based on Source 2007/Orange Box engine, new theatre of war, new weapon(s), aka kickass. But from what I've played of beta 2.1 RC so far, I think it is a pretty respectable release and once they get the actual 2.1 out, I think it is plenty good enough until 3.0.

So check it out former or interested players! It is a modern infantry-based, tactical shooter based around insurgencies vs US Marines. The devs have done some very high quality work for a mod IMO.

I played 2.1 for several hours yesterday. It's come a long way since version 1, the maps have all sorts of new corridors and such. The new suppression feature is very well implemented.

My only big criticism is the scoring system and the general lack of feedback for kills. Basically you need to press tab constantly to see if you've landed a hit on a far off target. This is a bit tiring and leaves you open to getting hit. There is also a numbness to getting killed, you never really know where it came from or under what circumstances. It makes situational awareness kind of a pot luck, which may be realistic perhaps but it doesn't make for a enjoyable game I don't think.

I agree for the most part 43st. On the scoring system however, I've noticed quite a few servers (seems like 1/3 to 1/2 of the ones I join) have the notifications turned on, and it actually says who killed who, not just KIA. I prefer when servers have that but it's not a big deal if it not.

Argh, I wanna play more, but I'm about 10 hours away from that! :(

so it's improved quite a bit from the original release last year? I'll have to relook at. I quit playing it once COD4 came out.

So this looks pretty damn cool. How is it compared to like some of the Valve Multiplayers, ie TF2 / Day of Defeat? How long will that freakin download take (680 meg lol - am I reading that right?)

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wanted to let people know how much fun this mod is. I just started playing it last night and although it took me several rounds to get use to things I had a blast. I need to pick up a headset this weekend because coms helps a lot.

I'll be here later on tonight if anyone wants to frag:
