Played this for about an hour and a half last night (TIME FLEW BY), and man what a treat it was.

I initially wrote it off after watching the Steam trailers, but was immediately sold after reading/ seeing more about it on Youtube.

I can't recall the last time I've felt such an intensity to gunfights; pure, raw and unforgiving come to mind. Recoil feels very convincing, and the audio quality is superb (arguably better than BF3/ BF4 even, at times).

Definitely worth the price of a gourmet burger meal ($15), and it'll only get better from here on out. A breath of fresh air is an understatement.

I would liken the game more to the early COD and counter strike. This is a game that would make a good competition shooter, its well delivered and the gunplay is solid and consistent.

I missed out on the early COD MP, and would easily consider this a cut-above CS.

The whole "lack of upgrades" thing is so relieving, putting everyone at equal ground. I agree that the eSports scene should take a close look at this, given the emphasis on teamwork and excellent 3D VoIP integration (something I wish more games had, like Planetside 2).

Really like this game. It's like if Red Orchestra and Counter-Strike had a baby. Very slow-moving, tactical, and satisfying to play. Voice communication is very helpful and often necessary. Would recommend.

I got this last Thursday and already have 22 hours in it... a big jump from the 8 hours or so of total gameplay in the previous 2 weeks on Steam. I was just burnt out on games. This is such a breath of fresh air. Particularly for anyone who liked the older FPS games - BF1942, COD4 (or older), Desert Combat, maybe even more tactical games like SWAT or Rainbow Six but are tired of the new AAA (BF and COD) titles coming out that are more of the same with a bunch of extra gimmicks and fluff that nobody wants or needs. Not to mention having to pay more money every 3 months or so just so you can continue playing that wonderful game you already paid $60 for. Yeah, I miss the old days of buy the game then let the modding/mapping community take it from there.

I would disagree about the slow moving part though... it can be depending on the map/mode/situation (I play on the sustained combat servers, mixes all the modes up)... but not everyone moves slow. Sometimes you have to move quick, other times you have to know when to hang back and wait for help, and other times you just have to camp your ass off and hope luck is on your side. That's one of the nice things about this... there is actual teamwork going on and it's so nice to see that again in public servers. Sure 1 person can seemingly win a round by himself by blowing up all 3 targets in that particular mode... but only because the rest of their team is busy getting shot all to hell somewhere else and keeping the fire off of him because yes, you do die in 1 or 2 shots most of the time. And you know when you're getting shot at - the sounds in this game are amazing.

Highly recommended game IMO. Sure it may not be for everyone... but for people like myself that "miss the old days" it might be right up your alley. And for $15 what do you have to lose? I'm sure we've all made worse purchases on Steam over the years that cost more than that. ;)

this is not like red orchestra
I haven't played RO to know but it is made by the same people... founder and project lead of RO is the founder and project lead of NWI (Insurgency).

And I didn't watch all of that WTF video but did watch the first 17 min or so... he's wrong about a couple things, you CAN mark targets, and there is a mini map you can bring up. ;)

I would say so.

What struck me at first was how your gun would sway left/ right, depending on which direction you swung your mouse/ camera; it was very "RO-ish".

Little did I know that NWI was actually involved with RO. :)

Yeah just seen this recently. Looks pretty good. I played the Insurgency mod for HL2 a bit and it was good.

Also read a review on it and it was good to mention that although the lack of status, customization and persistence seems like a miss, it is nice to be on an even playing field. Hate when I play the latest BF or CoD game and I'm a low level chump with nothing. Plus I don't play all that often and the games come out too often were it seems like I'm never up to an average rank/level.

Would be nice if they added just stats though.

I've checked the servers and it doesn't seem that busy. What I'm interested in is the RO2 Vietnam mod called In Country: Vietnam.

This game is on sale right now. It is, without a doubt, one of the best online tactical FPS games I've ever played.

It is ridiculously well-rounded, well-designed, and polished. The level design is perfect. The loadout system gives you just enough options to slightly tweak the game to your playstyle, but nothing more. There isn't a silly amount of weapons, half of which are the same; there is no level-up system, no XP. Just pure, unadulterated, intrinsically-rewarding tactical FPS action. That's it. And my god, is it good.

I started playing again these past few days - absolutely hooked!

The overall FEEL of everything, and little sound effects here and there - just golden.

Been feeling this way for awhile, but really have no inclination to go back to BF4 at this point...
