Insurance, got to love it!

So some douche stole a bunch of things out of my garage a couple weeks ago, a couple bikes, my golf clubs, some hockey sticks, and my lawn mower. Called up the insurance company and put in a claim. A couple of weeks later, I get a check for more than I told them I bought the items for! For some reason the items had more value in their database than the price I paid for them, and they reimbursed me as such. No changes to my rates either 🙂

I dont think so, I told them what the items were and what I paid for them, they looked up replacement costs for the same items and lo and behold, it was more than what I paid for the originals. I should look into having more items "stolen" 🙂

PAB, that u in an unbanned acct?

Our garage got burglarized about 10 years ago. We had "contents replacment" coverage, so I ended up making out pretty good. Even stuff I had bought at a garage sale was replaced at new prices...I explained about the origin of some of it, but the claims adjuster just said "go buy new," so I did...However, to this day, I'll reach for something in my tool box that isn't there...some stuff I never replaced...the stuff that hurt me the most, was my custom-made saltwater fishing gear. 2 beautiful rods...hand-made to fit ME...plus 2 huge boxes of specialized saltwater tackle. The claims adjuster wasn't familiar with the custom rods, and kept trying to value them from Bass Pro. I finally had a catalog sent to him from one of the big saltwater fishing stores...and he understood...finally.

i'm going through something similar. THe ahole above me flooded my drywall and it's not covered in my homeowners. So the adjuster is such a nice guy that he told me that he will help me buy putting in a claim for retexturing my ceiling for the whole room just because a part was soaked. After my deductable, I will have around 2k to fix it. I am still planning on sueing the neighbor.

do you have a deductable?

My deductible was $1K, My final settlement check was $3800 or so with another $1800 added on for reimbursement when I bought the new items.

Yeah, one of the items stolen was a customized mountain bike I had made. I dont use it anymore so I was glad to get the money back, but ahhh the memories....

Allstate is the insurer.

oh I got a cheapo insurance. But i'll be happy for anything so I don't have to go to court right away. Some of my drywall has mold.

"The water came from the sky and not the ocean or river, you're not covered under flood insurance"

Allstate somewhat overpaid us on a small kitchen fire a few years ago. Instead of having us get estimates for the appliances (stove and microwave) and repair of the slight damage, they just wrote us a check for more than it cost us. Oh well, I've certainly paid tons more to them over the years than they've paid me.
