About amongh ago a guy backed up into my car and scratched and dented my hood. I though few hundred for a new hood no big deal. I get a check for $1640.00 today. What to do? Told my wife it would only be a few hundred.....

I am just going to take a rubber mallet to the current hood to straighten it out a bit. I could care less about the car with 90k and driving 90 miles a day.

I would return it to the ins. company with a certified letter stating that you appreciate the genorosity but you aren't going to fix the hood because it is an older car that you use solely for commuter purposes.

Fix the hood.

On a completely unrelated note, you should probably start looking for a new big screen TV ;)

think of it as free premium for the next 2 years

(yes, yes, we all "pay for it" in the end)

Cash it. You are being reimbursed for the loss of value to your vehicle. You can choose to use it to fix the problem or keep it to offset the depreciated value of the vehicle due to the damage when you eventually sell the vehicle. You are NOT ripping off the insurance company if you choose the second option.

Save it for the bond you'll need to post when you get charged for insurance fraud

Ding ding ding. Doesn't matter if you use it to fix the car or not, you've lost value on your vehicle.

Deposit the check, and make sure that your car is road legal.

I know. But I figure next time he needs some dough he'll just do the same thing and get another check :)

Quick - call a lawyer!!!! If the insurance company was that quick to give you over 1600 bux, there must certainly be more where that came from. (Sarcasm. That's exactly what's wrong in this country. Don't do this.)

Take the money and be glad you have it. To fix the car or not to fix the car is your perogative. ;)

Uh, how abut cashing the check? Really now, how hard is it to figure out that a check needs to be cashed? You can't be serious. Did you really need to post here to find out what to do with a check?

It looks like he's looking for suggestions on what to do with the money, not how to cash it...

take it to your bank, and tell them you want to deposit it. that way, the money can be in your account while you decide what, if anything to do with it!
