Insulation?

Kev

I live in officially the worst insulated room in the entire world. I've got 3 huge windows on a corner room. It's about 30 degrees outside, which means 30 degrees in here too.

I have this plastic crap covering the windows but not only does it suck and let cold air through, but every time there is a gust of wind i hear the damn sh*t crackling. I'm almost on the verge of tearing it down cause its so annoying.

Any of you use anything that you would would recommend that works well?

How thick is the plastic?

If it's under 8 mil. it won't do much. (Too bad your not in my area I've got a bunch laying around)

Plexiglas is an alternative(not cheap). You'd be making an interior storm window. Make a frame just a little smaller than the opening and put foam tape around the perimeter to seal.

Do you rent / own ?

Go to homedepot and get yer self a few sheets of 1" 4x8 sheet of foam insulation and cut to fit yer windows. They'll keep the cold out and make the place dark. There easy to pop in/out of the sill and you can save em for next year. The 4x8 sheets are about 10 bucks or less...

This is good stuff. One sheet is R-8, double or triple it to make a great insulated wall in place of the Ice Box Windows.

We have a walk in uninsulated attic and it connects to our upstairs through a normal door. We mounted insulation like this on a piece of plywood with screw eyes to hold the plywood and it greatly helped insulate things.

better put some of those little silica packets in there to keep them from getting fogged up on the inside.
