Instrument Recommendations

I previously played piano for 10+ years. And now I'm looking to get a musical instrument to mess around with. Really I'm thinking an electric piano or guitar.

I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations. I will mostly likely be sticking to piano stuff so advanced synth capabilities aren't really required. MIDI would be cool. Some way to hook up headphones is a must (I live in an apartment complex). And the feel is somewhat important (as all my years before were spent on real pianos). Probably prefer 88 keys (just doesn't seem right not to have 88 keys), but honostly I probably wouldn't miss an octave off each end. And low cost is preferred. Some quick browsing turned up the Yamaha P80, but $1000 is kinda painful. I'm not a starving college student anymore, I'm a starving ex-college student. I could probably swing it but that's like a car payment and half a mod (chip/exhaust/suspension/whatever).. heh

Of course, I could go with a guitar, where I have no experience whatsoever. But they seem much cheaper (in general). I'd probably go with an acoustic.

So any recommendations for keyboards or guitars? Or maybe there is something I haven't thought of?

well if you're looking for a decent keyboard or electric piano, it's probably going to cost you at least $500
go to sonicstate for tons of info

there's also an abundance of guitarists... but i've heard there's somewhat of a shortage of bassists in relationship to guitarists... so yea

OK.. after looking around some.. I think I'm leaning towards the guitar (and it gets chicks like the piano never could apparently!).

Wondering what would be a good guitar for a total newbie. Not a big fan of the dreadnought (?) shape, though I think I've heard that steel string acoustics are best when first learning. What about acoustic electrics (best of both worlds? or worst of both?). I also rather like f holes, but I don't think I'll be laying out the bucks for a Guild.
