Instructions for setting up/optimizing console GPU cruncher.

System:
e6400 @ 2.8GHz on IP35-E
4x1GB HP DDR2
x1900gt 256MB
WinXP Pro SP2

Steps so far:
1) Downloaded & ran graphical GPU version long enough to get 2 units done, know system is stable and does the work without problems.

2) Just downloaded & ran console GPU version. It pulled a WU and started working (temps go up to what I saw before with graphical version) but I still have the CMD box open on the taskbar.
a) If I close this, temps drop back down indicating that crunching has stopped. Am I stuck with the stupid CMD box open all the time in order to use the console version?
b) How do I set this thing up to run without the CMD box visible?

3) Any tips/hints/suggestions on how to optimize the folding program for best performance on this setup?

4) How much difference would be expected from a bump up to an x1950pro 512MB versus the card I'm running now? Really asking based on this note from the F@H GPU FAQ:

Also note that the card should have more than 256MB (i.e. at least 512MB) of RAM, otherwise the GPU client will put a huge load on the client machine (although we do note that the 256MB X1950Pro using PCIe does work reasonably well).

Wish I could help you on this one, but I don't run the grapchical client.

I think you will need the CMD on the taskbar. My SMP client is like that. I just minimize it and ignore it. You could check your log file to confirm.

Sorry I can't answer all you questions either, but I have used "TrayIt" to eliminate the Taskbar button.

That computer would nicely run the SMP client for better points per day.

Ok, how many points difference are we talking about here?

Any tips on setting up/optimizing the SMP client?
