Shens for the Brits, however I will agree on the MS Word autocorrect feature being a pain in the arse for single and double quotes.

I don't think it's a regional setting. I have ' on my quote key, and ` is way over with the ~. Don't think I've ever used ` before this post.

Yeah, that`s what I don`t get. It`s definitely people with English keyboards doing this (Canadian/British girls, however small a minority). Is it to grab people`s attention more?

Yeah... It took me a little too. I was like, "Uh... I don't see the problem but why are you using that wei...ooohhhhh"

` vs '?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_%28symbol)

It's called a prime and it should not be used in place of a proper '. It's for fucking equations.

It's called a grave accent, tard.

Also, the opposing accent mark is called the acute accent, and it's different from the prime.

Apostrophe: '
Grave accent: `
Acute accent: ´
Prime: ′

I like how AT manages to analyze every meaningless aspect of life.

It would definitely be a treat to be in a huge room full of AT'ers. A few would end up in the hospital, a few would be in a tight-knit group, the rest would just be shunned by the rest of AT, and then there would be some people just walking around, not talking to anyone.

I use a lot of back-ticks when on a ksh or bash... but I don't use them in plain english. Also, my pinkie finger can reach my back-tick key with my hands in the "home" position ...

Don't forget ... there's also gonna be a creepy guy sitting on the floor looking at some fat chick's cankles ... He knows how to get you a free ipod though 🙂

If you use a grave accent instead of an apostrophe, you should be in the shunned group. It's that bad, though perhaps not as bad as misusing an apostrophe to indicate plural's.
