Is there a company making 'instant server rooms'? i.e. small sound-proofed enclosures which would accomodate a server or two with proper cooling via a duct to outside air?

No. I've put both my servers in the garage. They distract me when I'm doing something else in the garage is one thing. I may also need to move them out of the garage - which is where I need the soundproofing, because I swear the two servers together make just as much noise than my car at idle.

A garage is usually not really dustproof, nor very dry. Both dust and water are good ways to ruin computer hardware, and cause fans to make a lot more noise than needed anyway. The temperature won't be really constant there either probably.
If you hire a company to build such a room be willing to spend serious cash though.

I don't know of any companies, but why not just sketch out something and head to your local homecenter. I'm sure you could hack something together and for alot cheaper. I use a closet in my spare bedroom. It's amazing how quiet it made things just by putting them behind a closet door. I built a small rack out of 1"x2"s and 1/8" plywood. This rack houses my 2 servers, a cable modem and a linux router. I added a return air vent above the closet door to let hot air out. It works very well.

A colleague of mine put the server machine of her on a shelf in the toilet, where it's noise won't bother people much.

Who puts a server in their toilet? What the hell?!?

-------------------------------------

Those must be some loud servers.. damn...

Also, you dont want super dry rooms if you plan on working inside the servers.. Static electricity runs rampant in dry areas..

Actually, I thought about doing that since I have a toilet that I never use.

Have you heard a fully loaded HP LC2000 and an HP E800 going in close proximity? Jeeesus, whirrrr city.
For the hobbyists out there, it is akin to having 6+ Dragon Orb 3's going at once - I'm not kidding.

If I move my servers back into my house it's going to drive me crazy. That's why I want a small soundproofed enclosure - with ducting to outside the house for ventilation - I can put in my games room.
