Yes and the Instant Pot is a huge seller.

Still no discounts for the Duo60 right now. I suppose I'll target that one.

I can see I'm going to have a lot of fun with an Instant Pot. It's partly the automation thing. I regard my bread machine, even my microwave and toaster ovens as primitive robots. I figure the IP has a similar character. I should watch some videos and I'll for sure check out the online recipe scene for IPs, people say that's crucial for getting at what it's about, what's possible.

I sometimes struggle for new ideas for meals. I used to have some meals I could eat daily, and literally did FOR YEARS! I have a cookie recipe that I devised myself that I literally ate every day for breakfast, sometimes twice, even three times in one day. I loved it so much. I did this for years! I finally gave it up. I can still make it, I have a mix on hand that makes it quick. I could literally start preparation and have it in the oven in less than 10 minutes. After so many minutes, I'd flip the cookies over (88 mini-cookies) and reinsert in the oven and cook 'til crisp. Banana Bread Cookies, I called them, made with a mixture of nuts that I prepared myself.

For many years I made myself a burrito every day. Developed a fairly complex system. Loved them. Gave that up finally. Partly because of the big tortillas I'd buy from Costco. Too much starch.

Yeah, I'm a really big fan of making "master systems" that contain a lot of iterations - egg bites, burritos, etc. - because you can add a lot of flavors & variety without getting sick of it, and it's easy to make in bulk! For example, I did a bagel master system a couple months ago: (scroll down in the linked page for details)

I can make an egg/moz/tomato/grey poupon bagel, which is entirely different than an egg/colby jack/sausage/sriracha bagel, but it's easy to make a bunch & freeze them for future use, and then choose what I want to eat every day!

I've been eating a bagel every morning for some time now. I get them at Costco, sometimes at Safeway. Lots of seeds on them. I slice a bagel in 3rds, heat 20 seconds in microwave, then spread on toaster oven and toast max setting. Then spread some carmelized onions.

I can make my own bagels (world's best!) if I want. The Costco and Safeway bagels ("onion" and "everything" respectively) are quite similar and are pretty darn good. They also slice very easily with a proper sharp thin bladed knife.

That's not the Duo60... says:

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Saute, Yogurt Maker, and Warmer|6 Quart|11 One-Touch Programs

Is it really the same?

There are like a million different Instant Pot models now. You are looking for 2 keywords specifically:

1. "6 quart"
2. "7 in 1"

Any of them that matches that (at minimum) & you'll be good to go for making pretty much any recipe published on the Internet! I think they have like a 9-in-1 and a 10-in-1 now. But they also have some cheaper models that have less features, and you don't want to go less than 7-in-1.

I wouldn't worry about the price too much, in terms of plus or minus $10 or $20, unless your budget is really super tight, because a month of consistent use will typically pay for the machine. I don't know about your area, but my area has gone completely bananas in terms of the cost of eating out within the past few months...my favorite burger place is now $9 for a burger. I can buy five pounds of ground beef for that, lol. Olive Garden is nearly $20 a plate where I live. Cooking at home has gone from being merely cheaper to being extremely cost-effective since summer.

OK, so Duo60 hasn't got an advantage over any other Instant Pot 6qt 7 in 1? Fit, extras, the build of the machines, their capabilities... really the same, huh?

My uncle had a career as a butcher at Safeway. He told me not to ever buy packaged ground beef. He said if I saw what they put in the grinder it would be a serious wake up call. He said to buy stew meat and ask the butcher to grind it for me. I used to do that. Nowadays if I want ground beef I buy a cheap lean beef roast (or cheap lean steak), cut it in pieces and use an attachment I have for my Oster blenders. It's a sort of food processor but I use it exclusively to grind beef or pork.

I'm seeing that price commonly... I'll see if I can snag one (or I suppose any Instant Pot 6qt 7 in 1... Kaido says they're essentially equivalent) sometime between now and cyber Monday. I figure a good deal might pop up. I don't remember ever scoring BF or CM. I'll see if I can score on this. Strictly online, though, I'm not braving any B&M stores.

The "DUO60 7-in-1" is the standard model. Has the bulk of the features, is used by most people. 6-quart being the standard size, of course.

I actually just picked up a motorized meat grinder back in like March, it's been a beast:

I'm learning basic sausage-making & also use it for grinding, which is especially nice for creating different meat mixes!

I have made my own sausage off and on for a number of years. By virtue of some posting in these forums I was turned onto the idea of making a sausage extrusion device (Youtube videos). I went to the hardware store and bought a simple L shaped plumbing fitting, which attaches nicely to a cut-off plastic bottle. It works great and I extrude my sausage onto Corelle ceramic plates and freeze, thence into plastic bags in the freezer. I've done two batches so far, both using the same breakfast sausage recipe. I use lean pork roasts from Costco, so my sausage is not the typical 70% fat sort you buy but real lean! Tasty as heck, too!

I have a Duo60 in my cart at Macy's, found it by searching at Rakuten. Honey found a coupon, so I can get it for $72 or so, plus a 5% off by paying with Paypal. I'll hold off and see if something turns up for BF or CM. May lose this fish too, will see how it goes. :p

Muse. Be patient and you will find a good deal between now and the end of the year. I'm sure one of us will post if we see a deal on the duo60 7-in-1 but you have to buy quickly. I promise they will be below $70 at least a few times before the end of the year.

I inherited my grandmothers table top meat grinder. It is only missing one of the 3 cutting wheels. It was made in the 1950's I think, maybe earlier. It's a Universal Tab L Top Food Chopper. Works great.

No casings. Frozen, I cut a piece the size I want and pan fry on a low flame with a small pot lid on top to hold in the heat. Comes out plenty firm, I can (and do) then remove to the serving plate and using sharp knife and fork, slice into pieces.

Yesterday, I did things differently. Adding to Louisiana style red beans and rice, I cut my piece from the frozen rope, placed in small plate and microwaved 30 seconds. Broke little pieces off and threw in the pan with the already cooking vegetables (previous to adding the rice and beans, which is the final step). The pieces retained their physical integrity (didn't break apart) as I continued the stir-fry. Worked out great, I had been using packaged sausage in this dish before last night.

Yeah, no hurries, I'll hold off and target the Duo60, waiting for a good deal. Hey, as you know it was on sale briefly at Kohl's for $35 the other day! I still can't believe I didn't buy at $54 out the door a couple days ago, but I was worried about it sitting on my porch a day or two, really not that great a concern especially because they promised next week.

My mom's meat grinder (seldom used, at least later) was a mechanical affair, you cinched it up to a cutting board with a turn screw from below, it had a handle you turned with one hand. I guess it must have been a chore to clean it. I think it was Aluminum, not sure.

I like my little Osterizer attachment. Can only grind about 4oz at a time, you have to remove the ground meat, add more, etc. etc. until you're done. Then need to clean it, which isn't difficult. Then I set the 3 parts aside (top, blade assembly, bottom) to dry, put it all together, put it in it's protective bag (a random plastic bag) and back into storage. Been using this thing for ~12 years I'm guessing. IIRC cost me 10 bucks.

The Duo60 has been discounted here for $60 CDN. That is a steal compared to the normal price of $129 CDN.

Well, is that Target IP essentially a Duo60???

I have a Target account, didn't have a red card but I just applied online, was approved for up to $100 purchase, gave me my CC number, and have that IP in my cart now... $50.86 including tax, free delivery. Gonna get it! Looks to be pretty much the same as the Duo60 ???
