Isn't a convection oven different than an air fryer?

Nah, they are both just hair dryers in a bottle. I had both the Oyama convection & the Philips XL airfryer. Very similar results tbh. Save yourself $300 and get the Oyama if you really want one. Or if you want a high-end one, buy the Breville Air ($400 MSRP) because it acts as a toaster oven, convection oven, air fryer, proofer, and dehydrator all in one. I don't have either unit anymore, I personally didn't care for airfrying all that much. I have a lot of friends who love it though!

Got my IP 2 weeks ago, Got the basic 6qt model for $100 CDN on amazon. Ive done the Crack chicken, Pulled pork, and a bunch of hard boiled eggs(so fast and the shells come apart so easily). I freaking love this thing, its so fast and convenient. Going to do some beans next week and a soup. Also eager to try some currys and butter chicken. I hope this things built well cause im going to use the heck out of it.

Awesome!! Yes they are pretty well-built; I have used mine pretty much daily for years now. Dry beans are awesome; if you have a food processor, try out dry chickpeas - IP for 45 minutes or so, then food processor with tahini & flavors to make awesome homemade hummus. Super good!

On the hardboiled eggs - nice trick is to get a mason jar, fill it about 75% with water, put the hardboiled egg in, put the lid on, and shake it. It will crack the shell without damaging the egg. Then dump the egg into your hand and under the faucet with cold water, peel it apart. I just made a dozen perfect hardboiled eggs pretty quickly doing it that way!

Indian food is great in the IP, although I'm still pretty awful at making the exact flavor I want haha. Special note: buy a second silicone ring! The rings pick up smells permanently. If you make anything light or sweet like yogurt or cheesecake, it will smell like curry if you don't use a separate ring, be warned! Chinese take-out food is also excellent (beef & broccoli, orange chicken, etc.). It does do amazing soups...I do a lot of Panera & Olive Garden copycat recipes, all sorts of chilis (bean only, meat only, meat & bean, and alternative ones), and some stews. Chicken soup is the best you'll ever have...I'll usually get a small roaster chicken, cook that & pull the meat off, then throw the carcass back in (cartilage & bones) with veggies & spices to make a really excellent chicken soup base, then mix in some of the meat with it.

If you like cheesecake, this is a good pan:

Get the parchment liners too (so that you can slide it off easily).

instant pot hardboiled eggs look like more of a pain in the rear than just steaming them like god intended - still need a basket, takes as long, and i have to fiddle with the instant pot.

It just takes the babysitting out of it:

1. Pour in a cup of water
2. Put the trivet in
3. Put the eggs in
4. Set to 5 minutes (I do a 10 minute NPR) or whatever method you like
5. De-shell & enjoy!

You don't have to watch a pot on the stove, that's all. It's just more automated. There are plenty of recipes for the IP that aren't any faster than other methods, but you can go nef on ATOT while they cook without having to hover over them. And if you already have an IP, it makes sense to maximize the usage, even if a stovetop is just as easy to use.

I've seen lots of ways to do them posted online. I just do it the simplest way possible. Put in the stock steamer tray, it will hold up to 8 eggs just fine. Then throw in a cup or so of water. Cook for 5 min and I do natural pressure release. Then just crack em like you are cooking uncooked eggs and the shells seem to come off in 2-4 pieces. This is what amazes me the most how easy to peel they are. Just seems pretty easy to me. Maybe I was doing it the hard way before I got the ip I dunno. Lol.

Yep, after trying dang near every boiled egg recipe known...Instapot hard boiled eggs are incredible with the way they peel.

Made some pasta last night, turned out perfect. This thing is truly amazing i was totally not convinced it could do pasta well but it wasnt just well cooked it was perfect al dente.

Just made a basic pasta with some Italian sausage, bacon, salami, onions, tomato sauce and tomato paste, and water. few spices. topped with cheese.

Start to finish took about 20-25 min. 5 min pressure cook time rest was sauteing the meat first and heat up to pressurize time.

"Adult" Mac & Cheese comes out amazing in the IP. You can use real cheese & whatever kinds of noodles you like (I like small shells) and really bring it to the next level, no Kraft required! I'm still a fan of boxed Kraft mac & cheese because I grew up on it, but mixing real cheeses with real milk & a couple extra flavors like a bit of hot sauce & mustard can make it taste like a good restaurant made it!

I saw the bat signal, OK false alarm.

Haha!

Have you done first-run yet in your IP? It can be intimidating! hmu on skype or vent if you need a verbal walkthrough! ;)

A few weeks ago I bought a Midea SS5062, read somewhere they're the same company that makes the IP. it does more and looks way nicer IMHO, had a lot of 5 star reviews on Amazon too. After I got it and opened it I went back and read more of the reviews in depth. They all seem to be written in very broken English lol. Anyone used one of these?

So I've been tinkering with Starbucks Egg Bites in my Anova for the past month. They have turned out pretty good (way better than the ones from Starbucks, at any rate):

https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/i-got-my-anova-today.2360863/page-39#post-39069199

However, I've been looking for a more efficient way to make them (right now I use 4oz glass Mason jars & cook them sous vide for over an hour). I've been messing around with using silicone molds (baby food/candy/ice cube/chocolate molds all work, as long as they physically fit in your pot) with pretty good results! Just did a batch with whole eggs, cottage cheese, Jalapeno Cabot, and ham steak. Crisped up with a TS8000 torch. Meal prep for the week DONE!

was at least a 30 minute segment on the IP today on NPR. Good stuff

IP + Anova has really changed my at-home cooking life for the better. I spend less money & eat better food thanks to those two appliances.

Been messing around more with IP prep, vac-sealing, and then re-heating in the Anova. Pretty good results so far!

I find the same, im spending less money on food and eating better. Ive only had my IP a few months but i dont see myself living without one anytime soon.
