Instant Message File Transfer Help

Run into a problem lately with transferring files via MSN IM or AOL IM. Basically, if a file is transferred NOT compressed (NO WinZip, NO WinRAR), it can be received and viewed no problem.

The problem, though, is when the file is zipped or rar'ed, it can be transferred, but not opened on the other end as CRC errors appear:

Error Using WinZip

Error Using WinRAR

In our test, my buddy sent me a simple .jpg. When he sent it untouched, it transferred fine, and I was able to open it, no problem. Then, when he zipped it and rar'ed it, it transferred fine, but I got these errors when trying to unzip or unrar it.

Any ideas? We are both behind routers, both running XP. We have both turned off XP's built-in firewall and have opened the necessary ports for file transfer for the IM services.

Thanks in advance!

Want an easy program for file transfers that is really reliable? Check out BitWise Chat. Works on direct connect, no corruptions, and very fast. Other users that have had problems with MSN and have had BitWise work great. It would likely work for you too! 🙂
