Installing Zalman ZM80C-HP vga cooler, How do I get the orig heatsink off?

It's a visiontek Geforce 4 ti4200 with a blue orb (original cooler). It's like this thing is epoxied on, maybe I won't be able to get it off.

There is adhesive holding the cooler on those cards. I think the only way to remove it is to put it in a freezer bag and freeze it to make the glue brittle.

Um... I've never heard of a factory HSF being expoxied on. Look for small black protrusions on the back of the card. Squeeze each one and push it through the hole. Do this to each black clip thing. Then the HS should come right off. Worked for 2 cards for me.

Believe me, it is not just clamped on using a couple things sticking through the holes.

Thanks for the link mindwreck🙂

My favorite line from the linked site is:

My primary reason for adding this extra page is because I've seen some pretty funky solutions like sealing the card in a plastic bag and placing it in the freezer to weaken the glue. I have to say this now, that is completely unnecessary.

Its just funny when looking at this thread 😛

LOL Fallen Kell!

I got the heatsink off, thanks! Now to get all the stuff cleaned off it and hope it works when I'm done.

I wonder what thermal compound/glue they use..mine was this bright yellow crunchy dry stuff,, and was all cracked. This was on a ti4400.
