Installing XP Pro without SP2

Nocturnal

If I have a WRT54GL router and I install Windows XP Pro without SP2, will I have problems when I first connect my box to the internet upon reinstalling Windows? I know I can slipstream SP2 but right now I'm having issues downloading a valid copy of SP2 since my network controller is corrupting downloads.

Not sure exactly what you're asking if you'll have problems with...

If your network card is having issues corrupting downloads you could:
*replace it
*download SP2 from another machine and burn it to CD (or slipstream from that machine)

If you know that your network controller has issues I would remove (or disable it) so that you dont end up with anything else corrupted (i.e. if you download drivers or windows updates).

If it's the security vulnerability you're concerned about, I thought the big hole SP2 fixed was mainly for dialup. Besides, if the first site you visit is M$ to download SP2 you should be fine. But why wouldn't you do as Spyordie suggested -- just download SP2 from another box and host it on a share or burn it to CD? Then you can update before you initially connect to the internet.
