Installing XP from a backed up copy.

I have been wasting time trying to install XP from a backup disk, not the original. It will not install. Is this the copyright protection at work?
I tried the upgrade and clean install on a completly reformatted disk.

Is the only way I can install a fresh copy of XP from the original factory disc?

Share me your stories if you managed to install from a backup copy.

I've made a copy of mine with Nero and even slipstreamed SP1 and it worked fine. Something is wrong with yours. It probably wasn't cloned properly or you have a bad disc.
