Installing Winxp on a 300celeron, bad idea?

Yes it should work fine but why put $100+ OS just for web surfing. If that is all then put on linux for free and you will probably get better performance if you choose the right distro.
 
My Toshiba Protege 7200Ct Laptop is a
PII-366mhz with 192mb of RAM

I've install WinXP Professional, and the result is very SLOW!
WinXP has too many CUTZ, 32bit Color ICONS to draw, and it slows down the Computer's Response time.
After turning off all the Graphic Eye Candies, the performance was much better, but still on the slow side.

Without the Eye Candies, WinXP look exactly like the Window 2000, except it is slower and bulkier.

Needless to say, after 2 weeks of WinXP on this laptop, I've switch back to Window 2000!
