Installing Windows Updates on an old k6-2 300 is taking longer than it did to install win2k

Well it's not just copying files, it's finding, then updating, then verifying them. Takes a little longer I suppose, if it has to do a lot of them.

K6-2 FTW :)

You're tellin me. Only having 64MB of ram doesn't help either. swapfile with an old 4500rpm Quantium Fireball FTL.

where'd you get a list of services to disable?

this puts me in the mood to install winxp to a flash drive...

It's for XP but it applies to 2k also. Win2k is easier to get the memory usage down though because it has a lot less services running to begin with.

The K6-3s were pretty cool. I had a K6-3 Mobile which I had overclocked to 600MHz. :Q

I had always wanted to get one of the new(at the time) K6-2/3+ and overclock.

Even with the move down to .18 microns.. the core design just did not ramp clockspeed well. :( But when I was a hardware junkie, I loved that sh!t.. wringing the last bit of performance out of a platform...

no you didn't
Perhaps he meant one of the newer K6-2/3+'s?

Cuz yeah, 600MHz with the K6-3 was pretty hard to obtain.

But they sure did offer some awesome performance at the time. At least with integer calculations.

Yeah, it was a K6-3+. It would crash after about an hour though. I think it was just overheating. I don't remember the details anymore.

www.blackviper.com used to be the place to check it out, but it's down now. Go to http://majorgeeks.com/page.php?id=12 for a good list.
