Installing Windows Server 08 causes PC to not POST?

edit: this system had been working fine for about 1 month prior to tonight.

I installed Windows Server 08 tonight. The installation completed and it rebooted, but when it did that the motherboard tries to POST, but all it gets through is listing my CPU and memory, and then the screen goes blank and it reboots. Then the cycle repeats forever.

I tried resetting CMOS, which was sucessful in resetting the settings because it got changed back to the basic POST screen with the green gigabyte logo. However, this didn't solve the problem. I tried using only one stick of RAM at a time, but this didn't work either. I tried using no sticks of ram and it gave me the "no ram" beep code which was expected.

I don't know what else to try! It won't even let me enter the BIOS setup or the BIOS flashing utility 🙁

Help would be apreciated.

Offhand, there's nothing you did that should cause the motherboard to not POST. Presumably you made changes in the hard drives or other hardware when you installed Server 2008. It could be a connector that's come lose or or misaligned.

First thing I'd do is disconnect all the drives and see if you can POST. If that doesn't work, I'd start disconnecting everything else that isn't necessary for a POST. Finally, I'd remove the motherboard from the case, with just a keyboard, video card, power supply (20-pin plus 4-pin connections) and RAM and see if THAT posts.

Thanks for the help. I figured out that having my ipod connected to the computer makes the motherboard fail to POST 😱
