I've always wonder what the best way to install Windows. Obviously you want to install the OS first. But afterwards.... should one install the latest service pack, then install the latest Windows patches, then drivers, or which order is the best? I've always install SP first, then windows patches, then drivers. How do you guys go about this?

the first thing you should do is install the latest SP unless you need to install drivers to support something important first (such as a controller card, video, etc.) the next thing to do would be either the latest drivers or windows updates in whatever order is convienient.

In practice it doesnt really matter what differance you install them in (most of the time) just as long as you do install them ;)

i installed windows xp, and other OSs like this

1 install motherboard drivers, then video, then sound
2 install service pack (for it eliminates allot of patches)
3 install patches

With windows 98, I used to do it

1. Graphics Drivers (60hz...640x480...my eyes!!) & motherboard drives
2. Critical Updates including service packs
3. Drivers
4. Other windows updates
5. software

But with XP my order tends to vary a bit and it seems to have little effect!
