Installing Windows 98 Arabic

I am repairing a co-worker's cpu(bad hard drive), and she wants Win 98 Arabic installed, along with the US Win 98 if the Arabic version doesn't do English also.(her kids don't read or speak Arabic, but she does)

I can load Win 98 SE fine, but the Arabic version won't install. Booted up with a floppy, and typed setup, CD spins up, then goes right back to the prompt I started from.

I can't add the Arabic to the 98SE because her Arabic 98 is evidently 1st edition, so any installation functions are disabled by SE.

Anyone have any experience with this? I am lost. I can dir the CD just fine, but it won't install from it.

Alrite, well if you're trying to install Win98 on the same partition, then you're just asking for trouble.

What you need to do is:

Parition the hard drive into at least 2 seperate drives.
Boot up, install Arabic 98 on one of them.
Then boot and install the US 98 on the other parition.

However, you may run into problems since 98 is running essientially off DOS, and both of them need to set startup files on the Root drive, (ie: config.sys / autoexec.bat)

After that, since 98 doesn't have a boot loader, you'd need to get a 3rd party boot loader, (I think Partition Magic has one), then if everything's set up right, then when you boot you'll get a menu where you can choose to boot into either of the OSes.

Hope this helps you out,

I can't get the Arabic version to install at all.

I think it has the option to switch back and forth from English to Arabic.

I can boot up with a floppy, format the HD, fine. I can see what's on the Arabic Win 98. The files show up in English...looks exactly like an English version.

Try to run setup, and it seems like it's starting to do so, the CD spins up, it thinks for a few seconds.....then the same A: prompt comes back up.

I can slide the English 98SE in there, type setup, and it goes right into setup.

I can figure out the partition problem later, if I need to....I just need to get this Arabic 98 working.
