Installing Win98SE over Win98

I have a Win98SE CD and wish to install it on my Win98 system. I assume Win98SE is more stable and bug free than 98 also.

Is the installation just a matter of inserting the CD and running the install. If so does it simply replace the older 98 files with tne new 98SE files and leave the Registry and other things alone?

I assume installing Win98SE directly over Win98 is the way it goes and will improve things for me, right?

Probably won't improve things for you, and 98SE also introduced some new bugs. Unless you need Internet Connection Sharing, just stick with 98FE.

Really? I heard that 98SE got rid of more bugs than it introduced. That is interesting and counter intuitive.

If I should stick with 98FE over 98SE, what about 98 updates from Microsoft... is there 98 patches from the site which I should download? My install of 98 is stock with no microsoft patches.

If you do the MS Update website thing you will be just as far ahead as if you go to 98SE, except for ICS, which is an OK reason to go to SE if you need it. Otherwise stay where you are.

Hmmm.... Gee, I thought "upgradeing" to 98SE would be a no brainer... guess not surprisingly enough. I don't even know what ICS is so I guess I can live without it. Oh well..

If there are other opinions about the 98 vx 98SE thing, I'd be interested in hearing them. What is the consensus etc. Thanx.

Well to give you an idea how bad 98SE is, Winmag.com later "regretted" recommending that people upgrade to 98SE. As Homer said, the best thing to do is update your copy of Windows @ Windows Update, and forget 98SE.

BTW-ICS is Internet Connection Sharing.

Well guys, I guess you have convinced me to stand pat. I'm in to hurry to upgrade to ME either, that is unless anyone can give me compelling reason too do it. I guess conventional wisdom doesn't apply in everycase, especially where Microsoft is concerned! Thanks!
