Installing win98 & can't find file called smcusb.sys

I was installing win98 1st edition on new hard drive and prompt asked for a file called: smcusb.sys. It asked me to load a drivers disk?? Could not find file on win98 disk, sound card disk, video disk, help. What is file, what does it do and where would I find it.

from the name I guess you have some USB hardware from SMC which requires the driver. Unplug that thing and deal with it after you're done with the 98 installation. Most likely you will be able to find the driver on the internet.
