Hi there,

I've been installing win2k by first intalling win98se then installing win2k. Is there a way where i can install win2k faster without the need to install win98se first? Can i just format my computer then install win2k? I've looked and cant seem to find a way to do this without win98 first being on there. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Upon bootup from w2k cd, option is given to reformat/partition. after formatting, it should walk you right through the process w/out having to install win98 first. The installation does require you to put the win98 cd in at one point just for verification that you have it.

the post above hits the nail on the head... i used to do this with a win98se upgrade disc, had to throw my old win95 cd in every time i reformatted, but werked like a charm.

you have to have the boot order set to CD before hard drive, then the ide channel that the cd is on MUST be set to "auto" detection.

if that doesn't work, there is a folder on the cd called "Bootinst" that has file you can use to make boot floppies for win2k (you need 4 blanks). this is slower, but certainly faster than installing 98 first! :)
