I just installed 2 indentical Quantum HDD and I think I set them up correctly in the array. This is my first time setting up RAID.

I have it set up as:
Channel 1 Master: Quantum Fireball LM30
Channel 2 Master: Quantum Fireball LM30
Channel 2 Slave: IBM-DTLA-307045

I used auto-setup with preformance and desktop settings.
The 2 Quantum HDDs are in Array 1 and the IBM 75GXP is in Array 2 and Array 1 is set as bootable.
Now when I try to do a clean install on the Quantum array and the win2k install doesn't recognize it.
I also pressed F6 to install the Ultra100 drivers.

Help me out here!

Hello, I have been trying to install win2k on the Promise Raid 0 setup of the same motherboard. I found the instructions below, but I don't get the "Other" option from the install program. Anyone know the best way to get the latest install program for win2K? Has anyone done this?

1c. CD-ROM Install: Boot from the CD-ROM. Press <F6> after the message
?Press F6 if you need to install third party SCSI or RAID driver? appears.
2. When the ?Windows 2000 Setup? window is generated, press ?S? to Specify
an Additional Device(s)
3. Press ?O? to select ?Other? and press the ?Enter? key.
4. Insert the Promise Technology driver diskette into drive A: and press ?Enter?
key.
5. Choose ?Win2000 Promise FastTrak100 (tm) Controller? from the list that
appears on screen, then press the ?Enter? key.
6. The Windows 2000 Setup screen will appear again saying ?Setup will load
support for the following mass storage devices:? The list will include ?Win2000
Promise FastTrak100 (tm) controller?..

i thought that if you were gonna setup RAID you had to have no other harddrives on the channel? (only the 1 HD in each channel)?

i dont know if i made that up or what my memory is kinda bleh lately :)

1)Are the raid jumpers ok?

2)I think that u must remove the IBM as it can't do RAID with three drives. Each channel must have it's one. I may be wrong but at least try it.

3) Of course u must install the raid0 drivers. The floppy must contain the whole raid0 directory not just the w2k directory. (The same applies for ata100 drivers)

4)If it works and u want to have your IBM try installing him as u did and then when u have made the above step (specify the raid0 drivers in w2k) press the key to specify more and then insert a floppy with the ata100 drivers

i had the exact same problem last time i installed, where did you get the drivers from? if it's from asus' site, you're going the wrong way.

when you press F6 to specify new drivers, you want to install the Promise RAID drivers. these drivers are available on Asus' site from what i remember, but those are INCORRECT drivers. there's 2 types of the Promise Driver. there's the full original one, but we have a scaled down version called the Speed version or something i believe. the ones on asus' site are the regular Promise, we need the scaled down version or it won't work.

I had the A7V133 a while back. It uses the Promise FastTrack 100 "lite" controller from what I recall. I grabbed the ASUS cdrom that came w/ the mobo, and copied the contents of the Promise/raid files over to a floppy diskette. Then when I installed Win 2K, hit f6, s, enter, choose the fasttrack 100 lite, enter, enter to continue.

Does the Promise bios say the raid array is online and functioning properly?

john's got it right, it was the "lite" version of the controller. it only supports RAID0 and not RAID1 i believe

Thanks for the info. Another person suggested that the drivers on the web where bad, so I tied it with the drivers on the asus CD. I now have win2k installed on my raid 0 array. Thanks to those who responded. :D
