i've just got a brand new computer built and wanted to install win xp on it. how do i go about setting it up on a brand new built computer? do i have to install win 98 first to get win xp to setup?

do you have a full copy disk or an upgade disk. upgrade will ask for an older windows version (98,95...) to see that you are infact upgrading.
good luck

Plan do do this too, using Full Win98 CD to upgrade to WinXPpro onto empty hard disk.
When I boot from XP CD, will it allow me to do disk management such as I did with FDISK and FORMAT?
Can I set up an NTFS volume and format it ready for XP install, all from the XP CD?

1. Yes you can boot off the XP CD (very easy setup)
2. It will need to verify your Win 98 CD (if you have the XP upgrade)
3. You can than setup the partitions from within the installer (at that point it's exactly the same as a 2K setup)
