Installing vf700

Okay I have AS5 and am ready to install my vf700 to a Leadtek 6800GT..My two quick questions are do I take off the entire heatsink and fan from the card and how do I apply AS5? Need to know if I just put a tiny bit on and then put vf700 on or if I need to spread it out some.
 
yes you completely remove the old hsf unit including the cooling for the ram, clean the gpu and ram w/ 90% plus alcohol wait for it to dry, apply the ram sinks and then apply the AS5, completely cover the core of the gpu w/ as thin of a layer of as5 as possible then mount the VF700-Cu (fyi I've mounted a VF-700alcu on an X800xl so just follow the instructions they are fairly good)

:thumbsup: That's what I did with mine.... although my application of AS5 is not very thin... It does its job though.
 
Yea I just finished. Completely rewired the entire computer (to get better air flow) and put in some new fans. Idle temp is about 49C now as opposed to 64C. HUGE DIFFERENCE. Also ambient temperature is down atleast 15C. I am however worried that I may have screwed it up, but time will tell. That massive copper backplate on my Leadtek 6800GT didn't appear to be cooling anything on the back (rubber pad things to keep it off the board). Also I may have used too much AS5...it was more than a grain of rice, but it didn't exactly spread well either (most probably went on plastic bag though).
 
I don't know why they say to spread it with a plastic bag. Bag has never worked for me. They (AS) use to say to use a laminated plastic card (credit card, etc...). I just cut and old laminated library card (into 1/4's) and use the edge. Works excellent and easy to manipulate. A little more than a grain of rice is fine and the pressure from the VF700's mounts over time (thermal cycles) will spread it out for you. Your temps will get a little better (1-2C) after 200 hours (they claim) and several thermal cycles (computer on for a while then off for a while). Enjoy 🙂
