Is there any special way you have to install the heatsink? I've installed many heatsink's before but this one doesn't want to go on, the clips don't want to slid into the board's 'holders'.

Nick,

Use a SMALL flat blade screwdriver and pull back gently first, then slide it down over holder on the socket.

PS I have a Volcano II.

I still can't get it to slid down enough after many attmepts. Am I doing something fundamentally wrong when installing heatsinks? I've never had this problem before though. Very frustrating.

i had mine on...but I thought it was breaking the board with so much pressure on it. but it's okay now. The HSF's very secure with its clip. Just be brave, and push it down with the screwdriver. It'll work.

I had the same problem. It is just a pain to put in since you have to press really hard. I used a flathead screwdriver and its on now and working fine.

Yea the clip is a pain to put on. I thought I was going to break the board putting so much pressure on the clip.

Yup, flathead screwdriver. but be gentle, u dont want to slip off the clip and then chisel your mobo right in half only to have to buy a new motherboard and heatsink like i did.

no. just kidding.

Just 10 minutes ago I installed a Volcano II and I have to say it's been one of the easiest heatsink installations I've ever done (only Pentalpha SK155 was as easy). The clip is much better than what I was used to by Global Win, Alpha, Coolermaster, ...

Ummm....this was the first HSF I've EVER put on, and I did it in 30 seconds. TILT that bad boy to get the first clip on, then make sure it's flat against the processor and use the flat blade screwdriver. PUSH!

I finally got the stinking thing on, and it was a pain. For a while I was putting all my force on it, and after a few more tries it finally clicked into place. Thanks guys for your help, I guess some hsf's just need to go on tighter than others.

Be just as careful pulling it off if you ever decide to do so for whatever reason. You'll need to push down on the clip as well and if you don't do it evenly you can crack/chip a core just as easliy if you were putting one on......

I took me ages to put mine on!!!
I almost cut a few traks off my mobo (yikes), when the bloody flat head screw driver slipped.
Bloody bitch of a HSF.
I was to scared to use the any tool to help me to connect the HSF after that little incident, so I used my fingers. And they were starting to bleed by the time I got it on.
Hmmm, wondering if I should sew TT for making a crap clip that caused harm to my body :D

I really can't understand you guys. My Volcano II was sooo easy to install and I don't think the pressure of my clip is too low because the temperatures are good.
