Installing the FOP32-1: Is it supposed to take a LOT of pushing to install?

An earlier post described my woes with what may be a damaged CPU. Probably happened when installing the FOP32-1.

Seems to take a LOT of downward pressure on the fan clip, and therefore the CPU,to get the fan clipped to the socket. Even though the heat sink is flush with the CPU, won't this extreme pressure damage the CPU? At which point can you decide that downward pressure is just too much and a replacement fan is needed?

Or, are all FOPs like this and I'm just being wimpy?

Don't use too much force to catch that clip!!!! Use 2 screwdrivers (carefully), one to push the spring down and the other to keep it pushed out so that it will slip under the socket clip. Patience......, with care it will slip on easily but don't push down hard, you're just not catching the socket clip.
Cheers,
Joe

Thanks! Yeah, I did use the two screwdriver technique, but the board was still in the case, and movement was awkward. I will need to buy a new CPU anyway, so to protect that investment, I'll just remove the motherboard and install it that way. I want to be VERY careful when I do it the next time.

learned this the hard way

My mistake was like burning $190 because I didn't want to unscrew six screws and disconnect a few cables. What CPU did you mess up?
