Installing Surround Sound Speakers - Hiding Wires

I am planning on putting my surround sound speakers on wall mounts this time around. Is there a good way to hide the speaker wire that needs to run up the wall to the speakers? Is there some sort of channel or something I can tack to the wall?
 
small hole in the base of the wall
hole where speaker is going to be

use a fish tape (can get at home depot) to pull the wire through

from there you can run it under the carpet where it meets the wall. Just be careful you don't nick the cable on the carpet spikes or tackstrip.
 
or put it in the crown molding ( im not sure what its called)

Thats what we did, but be sure to use IN-WALL speaker cable were ever you put it 😉

That sh!t is EXPENSIVE.. at least I've never seen it cheap.

I use it and it worked out great too. Just ran it tucked in along the baseboard trim then underneath a doorframe. Then the small trail (4 inches about) to the ceiling is hardly noticeable because the stuff I bought is white and so are my walls. From there underneath the ceiling molding to speaker locale.

Yeah, that is a really good idea. Never heard of it.

Although if something got cut or if you had a cable problem it would be a pain.
 
Ran mine down through into the basement, through the floor joists and up into the wall. Exterior walls are a pain. The insulation greatly complicates the fishing of the wires.

Fronts and surrounds are wall mounted.
 
If you want to run the wires through the walls it's probably best to hire a professional. Running wires between the studs is not always as easy as it sounds. Better built homes have scabs that run between the vertical framing and it's often necessary to drill a hole through them in order to run the wires. Being able to do this requires cutting out part of the drywall and running a very long drill bit up into the wall avoiding any electrical wires while doing so. I was lucky when running the wires for my home theater. I had never installed any sheetrock in the ceiling so I was able to run all the wires before finishing the ceiling. If you want to do this yourself it's far easier to run the wires underneath baseboard molding, corner molding, and crown molding.
 
I should have mentioned i live in an apartment. Holes for speaker wire in the walls may upset them. 🙂

I will check out the flat speaker wire.
