Installing slaved HD in Windows XP

I am adding my second IBM Ultrastar 160 to my pc. I am running windows XP. I will slave the 2nd HD to the first and give it a scsi id of 1? I take it that xp will recognize this harddrive ? Will xp automatically offer me the tools/options to format this disk? I am using fat32 on the main drive and want to use fat32 on the slaved drive. I just wanted some input from you gurus before I started this task. Anyone got any advice/info for me?

They are both identical drives.........IBM Ultrastar Ultra160 10k rpm 9.1 gb drives.

I don't think windows will see it (a nonformatted hd), just going into the my computer after booting up. But you can set the cdrom as first boot device, then put in your windows xp cd and format it through there (make sure you select the right one though), then your windows xp will see it as a regular drive. There are other programs you can use but the windows cd will do. I have never done this with scsi so I am not sure if it is the same as ide, but it seems like it would be.

Open "Computer Management" in the Administrative Tools folder. Then click on "Disk Management" The new HD should show up in the list. From there you can partition and format the drive. I *THINK* in WinXP you might also be able to do this via a "Wizard" in the "Add Hardware" control panel.

wlee has it right. I just installed my 80GB Seagate as a slave drive, and I went into the Computer management, disk managment, and it brought up the partition/format wizard. It was as easy as selecting the partition size, the file system, and saying OK. It'll then format it and add it to your drives list. You don't even need a reboot.
