That, or try it on the Promise SATA controller with the Promise controller in straight IDE mode.

err, sorry to bother you, but how do I do that? I tried plugging it into the SATA slot for the Promise controller, and tried installing the promise drivers when promted, but that didnt work. so also, Im thinking maybe my floppy drive might be busted? Or there is either that or some sort of setting I have to change. BIOS does detect the floppy in Boot sequences and the green led on it is on, but maybe the drive is broken, perhaps thats the reason that it wont read from it when prompted for drivers.

Also, does it matter if I dont put the drivers in from the floppy at the very beginning by pressing F6, and do It after it says it can not detect hdd and then press "s"? Because it wont let me press F6 at the beginning for whatever reason.

There's an option in the bois to put the Promise controller into non-raid mode. Put the non raid Promise SATA drivers on a floppy, set it in non raid mode and do the f6 thing.

Well...

sorry you can't get it to work.

Like I said I don't have the exact same mobo, but on my A8V Deluxe when using the Promise controller, all I did was hit ctrl-F after booting. I hit create array and there was only one option available (stripe) since I had only one HD. After that I booted from the Win XP CD and had the Promise RAID drivers on a floppy. No problems after that.

When I called ASUS myself I spoke to 2 different guys, the first one was no help and had no idea what I was talking about. When I called again the next day the person I spoke to had dealt with the same problem before and was a lot of help an helped me resolve the problem.

Thanks.

I know its possible, but its almost as if Asus is making it sound like you cant. The one guy I spoke to from Asus tech support last night, had to be told at least 10 times that I am using only ONE SATA drive. I asked him how I go about setting it up, and he told me that I need a RAID setup for two SATA drives. Then I told him AGAIN that I only have one sata hard drive, and he said I need two or more hard drives to set up a RAID setup. So after finally explaining to him, he told me to just keep switiching the SATA inputs to other inputs. Nothing worked of course.

Anyway guys, I appriciate the help. Maybe I will call back Asus today and hope for someone that atleast knows slightly more than me lol..

Go into the Advanced > Onboard Devices Configuration menu in the motherboard's BIOS and you can set the Promise controller to IDE mode there, if you want to try the Promise SATA controller in its non-RAID mode. Pages 4-23 and 4-24 of your manual show what it looks like.

Just tried.. Still a no go :(

Still getting the same "please insert the disk labeled manufacturer supplied hardware disk" after I allready put in the disk with the Promise Raid [378RAID Makedisk] settings on there and press enter. Is this the right disk even? Could there be another problem? And does it matter if the F6 isnt working when its first asked for? Because it eventually asks if I want to press "S" to specify.

You should use the other Makedisk.exe that makes the Promise IDE-mode floppy, not the RAID version (search the mobo's CD-ROM, there are three Makedisk.exe's on it).

Also, do not expect to see anything different happen right away when you press the F6 key at the prompt. The prompt to press S a few minutes later is triggered by it, that's all.

Alright I have this board w/ a SATA drive and I had the same problem. You see there are two of the makedisk files on the cd. You were just using the wrong one. Now if you have it connected to the VIA controller, which I do. Go here on the Cd: Drivers/Viaraid/6420Raid/DriverDisk. There is a make disk file in there. But if you are using the promise controller go here: Drivers/Promise/378Raid. There is a makedisk file in there. If you are unsure what you have it hooked up to, make both disks and try them. NOTHING else should be necessary. Nothing in your bios should be changed, you dont need to setup an array, you just needed the correct file.

EDIT: I have the A8V board, but there should still be two makedisk files nontheless. The numbers might be different in the paths but they should be generally close.

Actually there should be three Makedisk.exe's unless something's been changed. Two for Promise (one RAID, one IDE-mode), and one for VIA (RAID mode).

Yes the light is on all the time (good/bad?) I am really beginning to suspect that the problem IS the floppy drive because this really should have worked by now. When I insert the floppy disk and press enter, I dont even hear the floppy reading (and i know this cheap 10$ floppy drive isnt silent) Im going to grab the floppy out of my dell computer and try that, and if it works, Im almost certain, and hoping that thats the problem, since 10 bucks isnt that bad :)

OKAY LOL..

You guys arent going to believe what the problem was.. It was something with the floppy cable. Luckily, my UV cable i ordered for it came today (thank God).. After about to hook up the floppy to the dell drive, the ribbon floppy cable that came with the Asus has two or three wires on it that are not connected to the end!! Almost like they were cut or something!! So this is what was causing the problem heh.. I plugged the floppy in and follwed the directions from Manhole, thank you for those again by the way.

Thanks a lot, expecially to those who helped me with the instrcutions, and the fact that it was such a silly problem.
