Hi,

My new system (see below) should be arriving soon. It'll come fuly constructed but without the OS installed. So I'm wondering if there's anything special I should think about when installing the drivers and OS (Windows 2000).

Antec Plus1080AMG 430W True Power
Athlon XP 2800+
Corsair TWINX1024-2700LL 1024Mb
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9800 Pro
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 120Gb 7200rpm SE
LITE-ON DVD-ROM
Samsung 959NF 19" Diamondtron

Thanks in advance

Firstly, awesome system :)

After installing the OS:

1: Service packs
2: If you're updating the BIOS do it here, otherwise chipset drivers

The rest doesn't really matter I don't think.

Should be no issues. Boot to the Windows CD and install, after it gets everything set up, use the Asus CD to install the driver set if Windows didn't already ask you for it. Download all the Windows Updates, then install updated drivers for everything else.

Hehe, I know how to install a OS. Just wanted to know if the drivers where to be installed in a certain order or such. I think I heard talk about that the IDE should not be installed?

Humm, with a system like this, perhaps I should stop crying ;)

Install the drivers from the CD and you're fine. Don't install the drivers for the IDE controller that are downloadable from nvidia, they just cause problems.

I'd personally install the service pack updates last and you may want to stay away from Win2K SP3. It doesn't fix anything critical but does give the OS some XP quirks, maybe not quirks, reporting things back to M$. As does Media Player 9. And nice system. is the 2800+ a Barton or T-Bred?
