Installing new SATA drive

So, XP is giving mondo issues, and I'm planning on picking up a new HD today. I already have a 80gb IDE drive as my main, and a 160Sata as my data. It's absolutely CRUCIAL that that 160 remains intact. How can I link those two drives together without losing my data?

If you are talking about "linking" your current 160Gb with your new drive into a single array, I don't believe that you can. Back up/image your current 160GB, create the RAID array of your choice, and restore onto it. If you are talking about adding the new drive to your 80GB and creating an array, there shouldn't be any issues with your 160GB.

If you make a morrored array, then as part of the creation process it will ask you permission to make a copy of the #1 SATA drive into the #2 SATA drive and from then on, once you boot into Windows it will be writing to both 160 drives. As his note suggests that data security is the goal, then this is the type of array he wants anyway.

Unless Horus has a controller I am not familiar with, he is not likely to be able to create an array between an IDE drive and a SATA drive.

Of course, nothing like this should be attempted without a backup of the original 160 drive, as a power failure or any number of other things could absolutely ruin his day <G>.

Apparently I can't do it...I need two identical drives. I just picked up a 320gb SATAII drive for 105 bucks, so oh well.
