Installing new hard drive

I was wondering if it's possible to just completely transfer the OS and data from my old hard drive into the new one without any compatibility errors?

If it is possible, can anyone recommend a program or method suitable for the task?

Thanks in advance

If the OS and apps on the old drive have been installed for a long time, I'd recommend a fresh format and install.
Even a new drive can seem slow if clogged up with years of crap. 😱

This will probably sound stupid but would I need to format/partition the drive before copying the old HD to the new HD?

I've never tried this before, usually i just do a fresh install on a new hard drive but this time I don't really have the time nor do I want to.

I definitely agree.
